Frankfurt - The U.S. intelligence agency NSA produced over 300 reports on German Chancellor Angela Merkel said today magazine Der Spiegel, citing information provided by former consultant Edward Snowden.
Chancellor's name was among the 122 heads of state and government on which the NSA collected information in May 2009, writes German magazine site. U.S. agency "made more than 300 reports on Angela Merkel," according to documents viewed by Der Spiegel.
These documents also include the names of the president of Peru, Somalia and Belarus. Such records were stored in a database NSA "could be an important piece of evidence" for the German justice, which "must decide in coming days whether opened a criminal investigation into suspected espionage, "says the magazine.
The NSA is the protagonist of a vast scandal since the summer of 2013, because of the revelations of his former partner Snowden.
