HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – A woman is in police custody for
purportedly sending an abusive SMS message to minister Hirsi of the
presidency. CID headquarters has been the home of Ms Nadra Mohamed Jama for the last six days as investigations are underway concerning an abusive SMS message she is alleged to have sent to Minister Hirsi H Ali of the presidency. While Hornnewspaper attempts to contact the CID has been unfruitful sources indicate that the lady was arraigned in a Hargeisa court which refused to handle the issue for reasons yet to be divulged thus her return to police custody. NOW, the confounding dilemma of this case is that a citizen is custody maybe as a result of the newly enacted intelligence law that gives security officials the carte blanche authority to arrest on whim. On the other hand almost all SIM cards are owner registered with the various providers thus the issue of investigations is hogwash as the identity of the send is clear even to a kindergarten pupil. At the same time the when of the message is suspicious considering that minister Hirsi has been out of the country for not less than a week, first in Djibouti to bury that country's central bank governor and now in Dubai to sell the Berbera port. We ask the police not to became another vessel to be used by some powerful individuals in the administration against innocent LANDERS as the Election commission was By the way did Hirsi receive the message while in Dubai? Do our Telesom and Somtel simcards have connection in the UAE? |

1. I shall be happy to help in every way with President Silaanyo’s visit to Addis.
I suggest you inform me of the dates of the visit to Addis and I shall fly over to give you all the back up support.

This will entail a focussed programme of work and action. Kindly keep this at the back of your mind, so that we can explore this in detail.
3. Walaal: Has there been any movement on the monthly allowance for the Somaliland Liaison Office in South Africa?
Kindly note that the monthly allowance for July, August, September, and October is outstanding ($16 000). Is there a person in your Ministry I could call and follow-up with? Or should I call Govornor Abdur-rahman Duale?

Walaal Mohamed,
My best wishes for the President’s up-coming visit. When in Addis, please let me know if you need support? I wonder if the mail below of 20 October reached you.
I know you must be busy. Is there a person in you ministry I can call regarding
the monthly allowance for the Somaliland Liaison Office in South Africa?
Regards, Iqbal

Hi Iqbal,
The visit to Addis is still pending on the availability of the Ethiopian Prime Minister, as soon as we get dates we will go. I will let you know if there is a need for additional support. Regarding the allowance, please contact our financial director on 4424775. But I can tell you that as a result of a budgetary review, a decision was made to reduce our liaiason offices aabroad and to cut the allowance. the maximum allowance from 28 July 2010 will be $1000 (one thousand) US. Our office in South Africa does not include those offices that are going away but the new allowance rate will apply.

Thank you for your up-date below Walaal Mohamed.
The news below is sad at, clearly, a critical time when more is required to advance Somaliland on the international front. In this respect,
1. Can you please get the financial director to act on the outstanding allowances (June & July 8000, August, Sept, Oct, Nov 4000 = total 12000 US)?
2. It’s a pity and unfair that I am being informed so late about this, as this has implications on the current office expenses (rent, phone, salary etc), which was advanced as part of a monthly contract for the past 4 months. This means I have to carry this debt, for the difference of 3000 US for the past 4 months (August, Sept. Oct, Nov)?
In this context, may I point out I shall with regret and a heavy heart, not be able to continue with my formal role here. I will need to undertake another project, for the time spent and to supplement my current monthly income.
I hope you will accept that the situation is unsustainable, unless another format is formulated for the Somaliland Office in SA, possibly the support of big business such as Ophir Energy SA or Telesom, etc.
I understand the budgetary constraints, but this seems to send a bad message that the government is not serious of its international relations. The current slim budget for offices should have been increased.
I await your advice to advance this crucial matter.

Thank you Walaal Mohamed for your reply below. Apologies accepted and, I understand your busy schedule.
I am glad Abdi Karim of Telesom was here and he was pleased to attend the Cape Town Telecoms conference on investments. Also, arrangements were made for the SL Ministry of National Planning’s 8-person delegation to attend a Public Administration Conference in South Africa.
In light of your e-mail below, I suggest:
1. The Ministry’s Financial Director settle the outstanding allowances. It is correctly from July to December 2010, as was anticipated and contracts concluded. $ 4000.00 x 6 months = 24 000 I will settle the expenses (rent, phone, salary etc) and discontinue the contracts from January 2011. In terms of South African law, 30 days notice needs to be given, so the rental, salary contract is discontinued. I will give notice tomorrow to discontinue the contracts. With December Christmas approaching, please prevail on to act on the money transfer at the soonest.
2. As for continuing as SL representative, I will hold the flag for the moment and will need to give this serious thought and planning, as to how I can possibly continue under this new arrangement. I will keep you up-dated.
Kind regards, Iqbal

Greetings Walaal Mohamed,
I hope all is well? I am glad to see that your UK visit worked out well.
Sorry to bother you again.
May I alert you since my e-mail below of 18th November, there has been no
movement whatsoever from your office to transfer the outstanding money below of $24 000. With Christmas approaching most offices close next Friday 17 December. I am under pressure to pay those outstanding bills and received a legal notice of 14 working days for payment.
PLEASE, urgently, let me know how your Ministry plans to settle this outstanding amount.
I noticed the Antonov plane, impounded with South African private security contractors. I have informed the SA government of this.

Greetings Walaal Wasiir Mohamed,
Since your e-mail below of 12th December 2010, may I alert you
there has been no movement whatsoever from the Finance Ministry or the Govornor’s office, in making the required transfer. I am confident you will appreciate that this delay is inconvenient.
I took a loan to settle the outstanding bills in December 2010 and promised a friend this matter will be settled within 3 weeks.
Can your office URGENTLY check with the Finance Ministry and the Govornor’s office if the money was transfered? If so, when was the transfer done, and by whom?

Resolution of SEP (UK) Congress: “Defend Julian Assange and WikiLeaks”
1. The Socialist Equality Party
salutes the courageous stand of WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange and
demands an end to their persecution. Assange and WikiLeaks are the victims of
an international conspiracy in which the British government is playing a
leading role. Its aim is to intimidate and silence all those who seek to
counter the wall of official lies used to conceal or justify war crimes and
conspiracies against the peoples of the world. We insist that the defence of
Assange and WikiLeaks must be the spearhead of a campaign to safeguard basic
democratic rights.
2. Assange is the victim of a
transparent frame-up, concocted by the Swedish authorities in concert with
Washington. The allegations of misconduct against him were made by two women
who sought him out and consented to sex on a number of occasions over several
days, including after the alleged incidents that led to their complaints. The
women had initially gone to the police, after conferring with one another, to
insist that Assange take an HIV test. They did not allege rape. An initial
investigation was dropped and an arrest warrant against Assange cancelled
because prosecuting authorities did not accept any “reason to suspect that he
has committed rape.” A warrant was only reissued after the intervention of
Swedish Chief Prosecutor Marianne Ny on September 1, 2010, on the pretext of
questioning Assange.
3. Even now no charges have ever
been laid against Assange. The arrest warrant is meant solely to provide a
pseudo-legal basis for getting him to Sweden and to facilitate his subsequent
transfer to the United States, where the Obama administration has had a secret
Grand Jury indictment prepared since December 2010 under charges of treason.
This has been facilitated by the Australian Labor government, which is
conspiring with the US against one of its own citizens.
4. Due to the efforts by the British
government and the judiciary, Assange has spent almost two years in prison or
under house arrest, fighting extradition, only to see every appeal rejected
right up to the Supreme Court. He would have already been extradited had he not
been granted diplomatic asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London on June 19,
2012. The Swedish authorities turned down an offer to question Assange on
embassy grounds, proving that their intention is to hand him over to the US
rather than investigate allegations of sexual misconduct.
5. Assange remains under immediate
threat. Britain’s contempt for fundamental democratic principles and its naked
imperialist arrogance were exemplified by the Conservative-led coalition
government’s threat to withdraw recognition of the Ecuadorian Embassy and send
police to storm its premises and seize Assange. Foreign Secretary William Hague
baldly declared, “The United Kingdom does not recognise the principle of
diplomatic asylum.”
6. Those who are guilty of
conducting wars of aggression in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, waging a covert
war against Syria, planning war against Iran and carrying out targeted
assassinations, rendition and torture have no compunction in trampling on
fundamental precepts of international law. Vice President Joseph Biden has
described Assange as a “high-tech terrorist” and secret US Air Force documents
have branded WikiLeaks and Assange as “the enemy”, placing them on a legal par
with Al-Qaeda. WikiLeaks’ Internet domains have been shut down and its
financial operations blocked by numerous US corporations.
7. As the fate of alleged
whistleblower US Private Bradley Manning demonstrates, designation as “the
enemy” threatens Assange with indefinite detention without trial and even death
under the US Espionage Act of 1917. The supposed crime for which Manning stands
accused is the leaking of confidential documents pointing to war crimes on the
part of US imperialism. For this he has been imprisoned in a military brig for
more than two years and subjected to inhuman and abusive treatment.
8. Feigned moral outrage over
Assange’s personal behaviour, centring on unproven allegations, has been used
to denounce anyone who defends his democratic rights as a “defender of rape”.
The common refrain, led by the liberal media, is that the allegations against
Assange must be taken at face value, or the integrity of all victims of sexual
abuse is thrown into question. In contrast, Assange’s well-founded fear of
political persecution and concern for his own integrity is dismissed as
self-aggrandisement.
9. The absence of any commitment in
ruling circles to basic democratic rights is demonstrated by the ability of the
US, British and Swedish authorities to rely on so-called liberals and
pseudo-lefts to sanction their efforts to railroad Assange. The Guardian,
having secured the right to selectively publish and edit WikiLeaks cables
documenting US war crimes, turned on Assange and led the attempts to blacken
his name. For its part, the Labour-controlled National Union of Students
Executive has banned Respect MP George Galloway from its platforms and
slandered him as a “rape denier” for denouncing the “reign of intellectual
terror” whipped up over allegations of sexual misconduct in order to vilify
Assange. In a blatant attack on free speech, the NUS extends a blanket ban on
anyone defending Assange by stating that it will refuse a “platform to speakers
who are rape deniers or apologists, or support events where such individuals
speak”.
10. Britain’s pseudo-left groups
echo the propaganda of the liberal media that the allegations of sexual assault
have nothing to do with the efforts of the US, Britain and Sweden to silence
Assange and destroy WikiLeaks. For more than a year, the Socialist Workers
Party and the Socialist Party refused to defend Assange. They finally broke
their silence only for the SWP to argue that he “must face rape charges” and
the SP to state that the accusations against him “should be properly investigated”
and “taken seriously”.
11. Just as spurious humanitarian
considerations serve as the means for these layers to sanction imperialist war,
so too have genuflections towards feminism provided the ideological
justification for an assault on essential legal precepts such as the
presumption of innocence. Notwithstanding worthless appeals to the Swedish
authorities to guarantee that Assange will not be extradited to the US, the
pseudo-lefts’ weasel words amount to support for the WikiLeaks founder’s extradition.
Both organisations have long been in agreement with the campaign to tar Assange
as a sexual criminal, but were initially reluctant to say so publicly. Just as
these organisations openly lined up behind imperialist intervention in Libya
and now Syria, so too they have come out in support of the efforts to silence
the exposure of western war crimes by Assange and WikiLeaks.
12. The campaign against Assange has
provided a devastating indictment of identity politics based on gender, race
and sexual preference. Long held up as a progressive alternative to the
supposedly crude class-based politics of socialism, the essentially right wing
character of the fixation on lifestyle politics has been demonstrated by
events. It has provided the chief mechanism through which a privileged and
self-satisfied middle class layer has been integrated into the structures of
official bourgeois politics.
13. The petty-bourgeois groups are
wholly indifferent to the broader ramifications of the persecution of Assange.
Never once have they made the essential connection between his threatened
extradition and the anti-democratic procedures that now determine the fate of
so many others. The European Arrest Warrant is only one example of how
extradition can be carried out almost at will, based only on “suspicion” of
criminal activity. It is part of a battery of anti-democratic legislation
enacted under the guise of the “war on terror” that has established the legal
framework of a police state. This includes detention without trial—in the case
of Babar Ahmad for up to eight years prior to his extradition to the US—and the
shoot-to-kill policy operated by the Metropolitan Police that led to the brutal
slaying of Jean Charles de Menezes by plainclothes officers.
14. The fate of Assange stands in
stark contrast to the kid gloves treatment of Chilean fascist dictator and mass
murderer General Augusto Pinochet, whose extradition to Spain was rejected by
the previous Labour government. Held from October 1998, Pinochet spent more
than a year in the UK, living in luxury, before being allowed to return to
Chile on the grounds of ill health.
15. The political representatives of
the financial oligarchy are spurred on by the global breakdown of capitalism to
ever more brazen acts of criminality in their defence of the indefensible—a
system that plunges billions into abject poverty and brutal oppression so that
a few can live lives of unparalleled and even depraved luxury. In the next
period, the police state methods used to persecute Assange will be directed
more broadly against masses of working people as they enter struggle against
austerity and the drive to war.
16. The defence of Assange, Manning
and WikiLeaks, and of democratic rights more broadly, cannot be waged through
the hollowed out institutions of British parliamentarism or appeals to the
powers that be. It demands the independent political mobilisation of the
working class on a socialist programme for the abolition of the profit system.
Only the formation of a workers’ government, the reorganisation of society on
the basis of human need, not private profit, and the establishment of genuine
democracy in every aspect of economic, political and social life can safeguard
civil liberties and avert the danger of war and reaction.
US recognized the most world failed State Somalia But, does Washington knows the first beneficiaries:
Within couple of weeks or months the US state department will receive official letters from top leaders of Federal Government of Somalia.
If US would agree the current Somali federal government request
of dropping the US court cases against former brutal government of Siad Barre’s
officials, then the Americans would be the evils on the earth

Sea Shepherd Founder Captain Paul Watson Granted Original Nation Passport
Jan. 21, 2013 – MELBOURNE, Australia — Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Founder, Captain Paul Watson, has been honoured with an Original Nation passport in a ceremony in Melbourne.
On Friday January 19th, Sea Shepherd representatives (Anna
Gordon and Jordan Crooka) accepted the passport on behalf of Captain
Watson who is currently aboard Sea Shepherd’s flagship vessel, the SSS Steve Irwin.
Having recently stepped down from Sea Shepherd U.S. and Sea Shepherd
Australia, Captain Watson has remained on board the vessel to document
Sea Shepherd’s ninth Antarctic Whale Defence Campaign, Operation Zero Tolerance.
Coordinated by Jabbir Jabbir and Nyul Nyul man Rodney Augustine (from the Kimberley region), and signed-off by Tent Embassy Customs Officer Robbie Thorpe from the Krautungalung people of the Gunnai Nation, the traditional owners of Lake Tyers, the passport is a show of solidarity between the First Peoples of Australia and Captain Watson. At a time when leaders of many nations have left Captain Watson without assistance, it is an acknowledgement by the First Australians of the years he has spent looking after the planet and the creatures that call it home.
Mr. Thorpe said, “We appreciate what environmental warriors like Paul Watson do. Anyone out there defending our flora and fauna is welcome to Country. We look forward to welcoming Paul ashore with a Welcome to Country smoke ceremony, at which time we will give him an official indigenous name.”
Accepting the honour, Captain Watson made the following statement: “I am proud beyond measure to receive a passport from the First Australians, an indigenous community that continues to remain unbroken from the connection between the laws of nature and our species. When the Aboriginal people look upon the whales, they see a mind and a spirit akin to themselves and they feel that same relationship that has also guided me since 1975 when I first looked into the eye of a dying whale and saw another reality. There are very few within the anthropocentric society that truly understand what we do, and why we do what we do to defend the whales. But there are many amongst the bio-centric community who do see, listen, smell and feel the kinship between all of us who dwell on this planet within the continuum of life, from the past through the present into the future. I know the Krautungalung of the Gunnai Nation and all First Australian Nations know of what I speak. Thank you Rodney Augustine, Robbie Thorpe and all involved for your most honoured support.”
Captain Watson is the second high-profile activist to have received the honorary Original Nation passport, after WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, who received the accolade in September last year.
Former Greens leader, Operation Zero Tolerance co-campaign leader and member of Sea Shepherd Australia’s Board of Directors, Bob Brown, said, “The Original Nation passport given to Paul Watson recognises this great conservationist’s unparalleled contribution to saving Australia’s whales. First Australians issuing this passport will be backed by most Australians who will want to see Watson in Australia and safe from harassment by Japanese political pressure.”
Last year, Sea Shepherd launched its first Australian based campaign, Operation Kimberley Miinimbi, to oppose the controversial gas-hub at James Price Point on the Western Australian Kimberley Coast. Led by Bob Brown and Sea Shepherd Australia Director, Jeff Hansen, under invitation from the
Goolarabooloo people whose country the proposed gas hub would be built upon, the operation is raising awareness of the Kimberley coastline to show the world what we all stand to lose if the development goes ahead.
“The Indigenous peoples of Australia’s connection to land and sea country is what Captain Paul Watson and Sea Shepherd is all about,” said Sea Shepherd Australia Director, Jeff Hansen. “Living in peace and harmony with the natural world and all its inhabitants. Any crime against nature is a crime against humanity, simply because we cannot sustain life on this planet without a healthy land and sea environment. Acknowledging Captain Paul Watson in this way further cements the notion that the majority of Australians are against whaling. We should all honour the man that has been leading the fight for Australia’s whales in Australia’s territory by granting him safe passage into Australia.”
The passport will be delivered to Captain Watson on his return from Operation Zero Tolerance.
About Captain Paul Watson
Sea Shepherd Founder Captain Paul Watson is a world renowned, respected leader in environmental issues. He was a co-founder of Greenpeace, has won countless awards for his decades of conservation work, and in 2000 was named one of Time Magazine’s Top 20 Environmental Heroes of the 20th Century.
