IDP in HargeisaIDP in HargeisaReport by: Agency for
Technical Cooperation and Development
Somalilandsun – It is estimated that 85,000 Internally
Displaced Persons (IDPs) are currently living in Somaliland, of which 2,500
families are hosted in Mohammed Moge IDP camp, surviving some of the region's
worst living conditions.
During the months of September and October 2012, ACTED
and REACH conducted two rapid IDP needs assessments in this camp on behalf of
the Shelter Cluster. CollecteACTED donatations to IDPsACTED donatations to
IDPsd data demonstrates that 87% of the surveyed families are living in a
single room, 78% of households are forced to sleep on the floor due to lack of
materials, while 73% of respondents reported that their shelters had recently
been damaged by rains. Almost all IDPs that took part in the survey said they
did not have a door or a locked door, demonstrating a significant lack of
safety and security for families living in the camp.
This information has been collected and published so that
ACTED and other aid organisations can plan timely and targeted assistance to
households in response to critical humanitarian needs.
